R\u00e9volutionnaire dans son design, le MiG 23 annon\u00e7ait des performances ascensionnelles et de vitesse pure hors du commun.<br \/>\n<img src=\"https:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5143\/5600886135_8f0f170799.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><img src=\"https:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5304\/5601469696_8cfa6eb6c1.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ces caract\u00e9ristiques furent nettement revues \u00e0 la baisse d\u00e8s les 1er vols du prototype. Malgr\u00e9 une \u00e9quipe de d\u00e9veloppement renforc\u00e9e, les bureaux Mikoyan Gurevitch n&rsquo;arrivaient pas \u00e0 tirer la quintessence de concepts pourtant prometteurs.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5302\/5600885903_e10bb5a595.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><img src=\"https:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5023\/5601469554_e5ff748d3c.jpg\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>LES USA SAUVENT LE PROJET<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ironiquement, les Etats-Unis permirent \u00e0 MiG d&rsquo;\u00e9viter une faillite compl\u00e8te du projet. La loi des aires de Richard Whitcomb permit aux ing\u00e9nieurs de l&rsquo;avionneur Russe de finaliser le design de l&rsquo;appareil. Fortement remani\u00e9, le nouveau prototype fut rebaptis\u00e9 MiG 24 pour marquer l&rsquo;\u00e9volution notable du projet.<\/p>\n<p>L&rsquo;accroissement des performances permit au MiG 24 de pulv\u00e9riser plusieurs records d&rsquo;altitude et de vitesse. Baptis\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Firestorm\u00a0\u00bb dans la codification OTAN, le MiG 24 fut affect\u00e9 en priorit\u00e9 \u00e0 la d\u00e9fense des territoires nord de l&rsquo;URSS. Les performances de l&rsquo;appareil \u00e9taient telles qu&rsquo;aucun intercepteur occidental n&rsquo;\u00e9tait en mesure d&rsquo;intercepter les vols \u00e0 haute-altitude des Firestorms.<\/p>\n<p>En mission de garde aux fronti\u00e8res, le Firestorm \u00e9tait \u00e9quip\u00e9 de deux missiles Vympel R-73 (code OTAN AA-11 Archer) en soute et de deux bidons supersoniques.
